JUAB COUNTY, Utah, Dec. 18, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have identified a man who died after a high-speed chase Saturday night on Interstate 15.

The driver of the vehicle that fled from troopers has been identified as Kaden Christen, 21, from Orem, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The UHP states that at about 5 p.m., a trooper tried to stop a vehicle going north on I-15 for a traffic violation near Mile Marker 207, near Yuba Lake State Park.

According to a UHP news release, the driver, later identified as Christen, did not yield, but fled north on the interstate at a high rate of speed.

Approximately 10 miles later, Christen lost control and went off the road toward the left side, the release states. The vehicle rolled through the center median and came to rest in the southbound travel lanes.

Christen died in the crash, and a female passenger was transported to a local hospital in poor condition.

I-15 was closed in both directions, with southbound traffic being diverted off at Mile Marker 222, routing to State Route 28 and then SR-78 and back onto I-15 at Mile Marker 208. Northbound traffic was following the same route, in reverse.

Utah County Sheriff’s Office is handling the crash investigation and the State Bureau of Investigation is leading the criminal investigation. It is not known why the driver fled.
