SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 11, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a deceased man found near southbound Interstate 215 northwest of downtown Salt Lake City who may have been the victim of a hit-and-run accident.

The deceased has been identified as Brennon Robert Day, 29, of Salt Lake City, Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Todd Royce said in a news release.

The body was discovered by a member of a work crew Saturday, Sgt. Evan Kirby, Utah Highway Patrol, told Gephardt Daily at the time. It was located in a weedy area about 20 feet to the right of the southbound lane at about 2100 North, near the Davis/Salt Lake County border.

A follow-up news release Monday said an autopsy had been conducted on the body.

“The injuries sustained are consistent with what appears to be an auto-pedestrian accident,” the news release said.

The State Bureau of Investigation and the Utah Highway Patrol worked with Utah State Crime Lab for positive identification of the body, due to the extent of body decomposition.

The State Bureau of Investigation is looking for the public’s help with information on the incident. It is believed that the body was in the location for between one and three weeks.

“We are looking for a vehicle that may have hit the individal,” the news release said. “The damage would be in the right front corner of the vehicle with a possible headlight broken.”

Anyone who has information in this incident is asked to contact Utah Highway Patrol Dispatch at 801-887-3800.

Gephardt Daily will have more information as it becomes available.
