Update: Police ID Layton man who died in Clearfield industrial accident

CLEARFIELD, Utah, April 9, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have identified a 38-year-old Layton man who lost his life in an industrial accident Saturday in Clearfield.

Victim Jeffrey Pead was working at at PolyExcel, a business in the Freeport Center’s Building A16, when the incident happened at approximately 12:10 p.m., according to Clearfield City Police.

In a news release, Assistant Police Chief Kelly Bennett said officers and medical personnel arrived and found a male worker, later identified as Pead, caught in the machinery.

The man was extricated, but died of his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Clearfield Police Department is working with the Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration in investigating the incident.

“The initial investigation suggests no suspicious circumstances and that the incident was an accident,” the news release says.

In addition to Clearfield Police, responding agencies were North Davis Fire District, Davis County Sheriff’s Office Paramedics and Crime Lab, and the Office of the Medical Examiner.
