SANDY, Utah, June 7, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The Sandy Police Department has identified some of those killed Tuesday afternoon in a shooting that left three dead and sent two to the hospital.

Dead at the scene were 39-year-old Memorez (pronounced Mem-or-ay) Rackley; Rackley’s 6-year-old son, unnamed by police but listed on a GoFundMe account as Jase; and the man believed to be the shooter, 32-year-old Jeremy Patterson, of Draper.

Shot and taken to the hospital in critical condition was Rackley’s 9-year-old, named Myles according to the GoFundMe account. The 8-year-old daughter of a woman who picked up Rackley and her children was also hospitalized in stable condition.

Prior to the shooting, a female good Samaritan stopped to give Rackley and her two sons a ride out of the area. After they were in her vehicle, Patterson rammed her vehicle, causing it to stop.

The male suspect (Patterson) exited his vehicle firing multiple shots into the other vehicle, the news release said.

Through the investigation, it has been determined that Jeremy Patterson is not the father of any of the victims, the Sandy Police news release said. Patterson and Mem Rackley “did have some type of relationship, however the extent of the relationship is still under investigation at this time.”

On Wednesday morning, a member of the Rackley family released a statement:

Our family is heartbroken by the events of yesterday. We are focusing on supporting our injured son in his recovery. We are grateful to the Good Samaritan that stopped to help our family, and our thoughts are also with their daughter, who was injured. At this time, we appreciate the prayers of so many. We ask that you respect our privacy as we mourn for our family.

For anyone who would like to support memorial services for the family, please send donations to Rackley Memorial Fund at Mountain America Credit Union.

In addition, the GoFundMe page set up to help pay for funerals and hospital bills provided the following information:

Today the Rackley family lost their sweet mom, Mem, and youngest son, Jase, in a shooting. Myles, Dustin and Mem’s middle son, was also shot but has survived.

He was LifeFlighted to a hospital where he had surgery due to the gunshot wounds.

As a community we are devastated by this terrible incidence. No one ever expects to have to bury their young mother and son. Please donate what you can to help cover the funeral costs for Mem and Jase as well as medical expenses for Myles.

Dustin is self employed and Mem was unemployed so anything will help greatly.  Thank you!!!
