Flores, Salvador M. SO# 309858 Mar 2015 mugSalt Lake City, UT – April 15, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) –  The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office has determined that the March 3, 2015 Use of Deadly Force by Salt Lake City Police Department Officer Trevor Hansen was legally justified.

The determination was made after a routine Officer Involved Critical Incident (OICI) review was conducted.

Salvador Flores, 29, suffered critical injuries after being shot by police after he allegedly brandished a gun at officers during a traffic stop. He was released from a hospital and booked into jail March 10.

According to information from the Salt Lake City Police Department, Flores faces charges that include two counts of felony assault, one count of a weapons violation by a restricted person, one count of resisting arrest and other misdemeanor charges.

Flores was injured March 3 when police pulled over a truck near 1160 South State Street around 3:30 a.m. Police stated when Flores exited the vehicle he was brandishing a handgun and was shot twice in the torso by one of the officers.

Hansen was put on administrative leave pending the investigation, as is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
