1 dead after two-vehicle collision near Utah state line

VIRGIN RIVER GORGE, Arizona, July 10, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — One person is dead after a head-on collision seven miles south of the Utah state line in northwest Arizona Monday morning.

The two-vehicle collision occurred at mile post 22 at the last bridge in the Virgin River Gorge at approximately 5 a.m., according to Sgt. John Bottoms, Arizona Highway Patrol.

One of the vehicles was going southbound in the northbound lanes, Bottoms said, when it collided with another vehicle that was going northbound.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle died from his injuries at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle was transported by medical helicopter to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George for treatment of her injuries.

The crash shut down the freeway for four hours.
