Video: Officers pull distraught woman to safety in Millcreek

MILLCREEK, Utah, March 21, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A distraught woman who was clinging to the outside of a chain link fence of an overpass Tuesday was pulled to safety through the efforts of officers from the Unified Police Department and the Utah Highway Patrol.

Someone driving by called in the report at about 7 a.m. Tuesday. The trembling woman, who had been threatening to drop into traffic, was standing on a thin ledge outside the 3300 South overpass above Interstate 215.

Crews responded to the scene, where another passerby had talked to and was trying to soothe the woman.

UPD Cpl. N. Swallow approached, and was able to calm the woman, who is in her mid-40s, and to reach through the fence and get a grip on her sweatshirt, according to information from the Utah Highway Patrol.

A UHP trooper then handcuffed the woman to the fence, and a small section of the fence was cut away to allow for her rescue.

The woman was pulled to the safety of the roadway without injury to her or responding officers.
