Wanted Man Arrested At Motel In SLC Following SWAT Response

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 4, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A man wanted for several drug-related felony warrants was arrested by police after barricading himself inside a Salt Lake City motel room Saturday.

Authorities responded to Skyline Inn, 2475 E. 1700 South, at about 3 p.m. after learning wanted fugitive 31-year-old Andrey Tkachenko was at the location.

Unified Police Det. Ken Hansen said when officers arrived at the Inn, Tkachenko barricaded himself, another man, and two women inside the motel room, and would not come out.

SWAT teams responded and a crisis negotiator contacted the suspect by phone and gave him directions. The patrons of the motel in nearby rooms were evacuated, and other patrons were asked to shelter in place.

Tkachenko surrendered peacefully after a few minutes and was was arrested by UPD Taylorsville Street Crimes detectives.

Tkachenko was the suspect in a police chase that was called off Wednesday, Hansen said.

He was also considered a suspect in an incident in Murray early Saturday morning. Murray Police said witnesses reported a man and woman were arguing just after midnight near 4500 South and 700 East when the man pulled out a gun and fired several shots. Nobody was hit during the incident, and the two suspects fled.

UPD was assisted during the incident at Skyline Inn by police from West Valley City and Salt Lake City, and by the Metro Gang Unit detectives.
