SANDY, Utah, May 31, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A water main break closed a Sandy road Wednesday evening.

The break, at 12000 S. 1700 East, which caused water to shoot 50 feet into the air, occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m., said Sandy City Fire Battalion Chief Eric Larson.

Larson said the plume of water damaged the road and sent rocks and debris flying, breaking a number of windows in a nearby house.

The break was contained in about 20 minutes. The road will be closed in that area while Sandy City Public Works fixes the main and repairs the road.

As of 7:30 p.m., there was no set time that the road would reopen; Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as information becomes available.

Nobody was injured in the incident and Larson said that as yet there is no estimate on the total amount of damages.
