Weather Service wants you to know: A blast of February is coming this week

May 14, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Just as folks are bringing out the grills and preparing gardens — or at least putting a few potted plants outside — the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City is telling us that “Winter is returning to Utah.”

In a Facebook post on Sunday, the NWS warned that temperatures will be back to late February normals by Wednesday and the snow levels could drop to the valley floors in many areas.

Frost is expected, especially Thursday morning, threatening both agriculture and personal gardens.

So if you have plants outdoors, now is the time to be ready to cover them or bring them inside if possible.

The recent concerns about icy-cold creeks and rivers still apply, too. Keep an eye on children and pets around any waterways, and do not try to rescue an animal that decides to go into the water. Experts have advised that dogs are very good at self-rescue, and the water is way too cold to be safe for people.
