WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Feb. 7, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are searching for a suspect who hit a West Valley City police officer with his vehicle early Wednesday morning.

Officials responded to the E-Gate apartments at 2309 W. Fly Catcher Lane (2800 South) at approximately midnight after a report of some men behaving suspiciously and ducking down inside of a car, West Valley City Police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku told Gephardt Daily.

When the officer arrived and approached the car, Vainuku said, the driver put the car into drive and pulled forward, bumping the officer.

“The car made contact with the officer’s leg and hand,” Vainuku said. “The officer’s hand was a little tender, but he is fine. He declined medical attention.”

Another officer followed the car, but lost it after a short pursuit. Police then found the abandoned car at 1851 W. Parkway Blvd. (2500 South).

“They set up a containment around the area and did find the passenger from the car, who was questioned and released,” Vainuku said.

Investigators are now working to identify the driver, who could face felony charges if, during the course of this investigation, it is revealed that he hit the officer in an attempt to flee the scene.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the WVCPD at 801-840-4000.
