LAYTON, Utah, Dec.15, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A 75-year-old woman died Friday night after she was hit by a car while crossing Main Street near 689 North.

Layton Police Sgt. Paul Gardiner told Gephardt Daily the woman was crossing eastbound on foot and was standing in the median lane. A northbound vehicle also was in that lane waiting to turn.

The woman was not in a crosswalk, Gardiner said.

“The woman then started running across the northbound lanes, and got hit by one of the cars,” Gardiner said.

He said the woman had bruising on her legs, but also suffered a severe head injury. She was first taken by ambulance to Davis Hospital, and was then flown to Ogden Regional Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Gardiner said it was dark at the time of the accident, and the male driver just didn’t see the woman as she ran across the lane of traffic.

The driver was cooperative and “was not under the influence,” Gardiner said.
