Woman killed in early morning crash near Provo Canyon

PROVO, Utah, Nov. 22, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — One woman is dead after her vehicle was hit by another vehicle that drifted into oncoming traffic near Provo Canyon early Sunday morning.

A news release from Provo Police Department said officials received a report of the accident at about 6000 N. University Ave. at approximately 1:50 a.m.

Witnesses stated that a vehicle was traveling  northbound at excessive speeds, then drifted into oncoming traffic. It collided with a vehicle that was traveling southbound.

The female driver of the vehicle traveling southbound was found to be deceased when first responders arrived.

The driver of the vehicle traveling northbound was transported to the hospital and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives from the Traffic Accident Team conducted the investigation.

The name of the deceased woman has not been released pending notification of family members.

As of Tuesday morning, the suspect remains under police guard at the hospital. Provo Police will release his name after he is medically discharged and booked at Utah County Jail.
