Dec. 27 (UPI) — The four people found dead in a Troy, N.Y., apartment Tuesday included two adult women and two children, police said Wednesday.

The two women, ages 36 and 22, were involved in a relationship, Troy police Chief James Tedesco said during a news conference Wednesday afternoon. The women and two children, a 5-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy, were found dead Tuesday afternoon in a basement apartment.

One of the women was the mother of the two children. Tedesco didn’t reveal the victims’ identities, nor their cause of death. Autopsies were being conducted Wednesday.

Police said Tuesday they were treating the deaths as homicides.

“This is not a random act,” Tedesco said. “We don’t believe there is a danger to the public.”

He asked for the public to provide information to assist police in finding the person responsible for the deaths. There have been no arrests.

“I can only ask that if you know anything … please call us,” Tedesco said.

New York State Police sent investigators, including evidence technicians, computer crime specialists and criminal investigators.
