SPARTANBURG, S.C., Nov. 4 (UPI) — Investigators descended on a rural South Carolina farm to search for possible human remains after a missing woman was found chained inside a storage container on the property.

The Spartanburg County coroner, police and cadaver-sniffing dogs scoured the land Friday where Kala Brown, 30, was discovered after she went missing with her boyfriend, Charlie Carver, some two months ago. Carver, 32, remains missing but his vehicle was found on the property where Brown was being held captive.

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said Brown indicated there may be four people buried on the property.

“I don’t know if that’s true or not, but we will stay here as long as it takes to make sure that what she said is true or not true,” Wright said. “We’re trying to make sure we don’t have a serial killer on our hands. [It’s] very possibly could be what we have.”

Brown and Carver disappeared in August, prompting a community-wide search. Brown was discovered “chained like a dog” inside a 30-by-15-foot storage container, where she had been held since her disappearance.

Property owner Todd Kohlhepp, a convicted sex offender in Arizona, has been charged with kidnapping in the case. An arrest warrant alleges that Kohlhepp, 45, kidnapped Brown on or around August 31.
