Feb. 1 (UPI) — The man accused of driving a van into a group of Muslim worshipers outside a London mosque last summer was convicted Thursday of murder and attempted murder.
Darren Osborne was accused of the attack last June that killed Makram Ali, 51, and injured 12 others. The victims were all worshipers leaving the Finsbury Park mosque.
It took the jury only one hour to find Osbourne guilty, concluding that he tried to kill as many people as possible after immersing himself in extremist propaganda online.
Witnesses said Osborne shouted that he wanted to “kill all Muslims.”
Prosecutor Jonathan Rees opened the case by saying witnesses heard Osborne say after the attack, “I’ve done my job. You can kill me now.”
Defense attorneys argued a man named Dave, who could not be seen by security camera footage, was the actual driver of the van.
Osborne, who had denied the charges, showed little emotion as the verdict was read Thursday. He will be sentenced on Friday.
