Delta pilot cleared after striking female during passenger fight

April 29 (UPI) — Delta returned a pilot to work after investigating an incident captured on cellphone video where he strikes one of two women involved in a fight on a jetway as they exit a plane.

The video was published by the entertainment site TMZ. It shows two women involved in a physical altercation. One woman is knocked to the ground and the other lays on top of her. The pilot walks into the movable hallway connecting the plane with Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and grabs one of the women and hits her on the arm as he attempts to break up the fight.

In a statement, Delta said the pilot was initially suspended from work while the airline investigated the incident, which happened last week. The pilot was cleared of any wrongdoing because the airline said he was attempting to stop the fight.

The Atlanta-based airline said local law enforcement was notified and investigated the incident. It was unclear whether any criminal charges were filed against either woman.

“The pilot has since been returned to work as an investigation found that his actions de-escalated an altercation,” according to Delta’s statement.
