SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 20, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Elizabeth Smart is speaking out about pornography, saying in a newly released video that the horrors of her abduction at the age of 14 were greatly compounded by her kidnappers’ use of pornographic material.

Smart, now 28, made the comments in an interview with Fight the New Drug — a self-described social advocacy group — which claims its “mission is to raise awareness on the harmful effects of pornography through creative mediums.”

During the 5:15 video, Smart revealed for the first time how Mitchell’s daily use of pornography fueled his sexual appetite, leading him to sexually assault her multiple times each day during her nine-month ordeal.

“I can’t say he would not have gone out and kidnapped me had he not looked a pornography,” Smart told Fight the New Drug. “All I know is pornography made my living hell … worse.”

Smart was kidnapped from the bedroom of her Salt Lake City home in the early morning of June 5, 2002.

She was rescued nine months later while walking with her abductors, Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Barzee, along a road in Sandy, Utah.
