Gephardt Daily FanX Report: Apollo 11’s Buzz Aldrin Touches Down In SLC, Talks Moon, Mars, Mankind

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 24, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Buzz Aldrin — famed member of the Apollo 11 crew and just the second man in history to walk on the moon — has landed in Salt Lake City.

Aldrin touched down Thursday morning at the Salt Lake Convention, where he is a featured guest at this year’s Comic Con FanXprience.

Now 86, Aldrin was 39 when he became the second of 12 men to walk on the lunar surface. Although commander Neil Armstrong took the first steps through the lunar dust during their shared 1969 mission, Aldrin is widely reported to be the first man to pee while on the moon.

Edwin Eugene “Buzz” Aldrin made history when he piloted the Lunar Module on the first manned lunar landing in history.

Aldrin was the second of only 12 people to walk on the moon.

“Beautiful view,”  Aldrin said, upon stepping out of the Lunar Module. “Isn’t it magnificent?” Armstrong asked. Aldrin’s response: “Magnificent desolation.”

After leaving NASA in 1971, Aldrin was the Commandant of the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base, in California, and the next year retired from active duty after 21 years.

Aldrin’s two autobiographies are “Return to Earth” and “Magnificent Desolation.”
