MAIDUGURI, Nigeria, June 22 (UPI) — Blasts from two female suicide bombers at a crowded fish market in Nigeria’s northeastern city of Maiduguri killed at least 20 people Monday, witnesses said.
Sources told the BBC that the two women, who were wearing suicide bomb vests, had disguised themselves as beggars in an attempt to enter the market unnoticed.

The explosives on one woman detonated inside the market, killing the woman and more than a dozen other people. The other woman ran away and her vest detonated outside the market, killing only herself.

“We have evacuated 20 dead from the scene,” Usman Tanimu, leader of a vigilante group, told Bloomberg by phone. “Several others sustained injuries.”

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but terror group Boko Haram has a significant presence in Nigeria and has a history of similar attacks.
