JERUSALEM, Jan. 8 (UPI) — Four people, three women and one man, were killed today when a suspected terrorist plowed a truck through a group of soldiers on Armon Hanatziv promenade in Jerusalem.

More than a dozen others were injured in the attack. One report suggested 15 were injured. Another claimed 13 were hurt, three with serious injuries.

“It is a terrorist attack, a ramming attack,” a police spokeswoman said on a radio broadcast in Israel.

The perpetrator was quickly killed by a barrage of bullets unleashed on the truck by soldiers unharmed by the attack.

Witnesses said the attacker plowed his truck into the group before reversing over injured victims.

“Those who incite and fan the flames and those who support terror must pay a heavy price,” Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat told reporters. “I call the residents of Jerusalem and the country at large to be alert and, despite this hard terror attack, to carry on in your daily routines, and do not let terror win.”

Since October 2015, at least 35 Israelis have been killed in terror attacks carried out by Palestinians. More than 500 have been wounded in attacks. The majority of the attacks involved stabbings and car-ramming incidents.

During the same period, more than 200 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli security forces. Israel claims the majority of those killed were assailants.
