ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Oct. 21 (UPI) — General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems has been awarded two U.S. Army contracts collectively worth $170 million for production of the Hydra-70 rocket system, the company announced this week.
The deal covers production of the 2.75″/70mm Hydra-70 air-to-ground rocket systems for U.S. military services and foreign military sales customers, the company said in a statement.
It is an option exercised that is part of a supplies contract originally awarded to the company in 2014.
General Dynamics has been in continuous production of the rockets since 1996.
The air-launched rockets are used by each service on fixed and rotary wing aircraft.
The highly modular rocket family incorporates several different warheads, including high-explosive, anti-personnel, training and illumination flare.
