ACAPULCO, Mexico, May 20 (UPI) — Mexican security forces have arrested Francisco Javier “The Viper” Resillas Ríos, one of the 16 most wanted men in Mexico.

Resillas, 24, and two other men were arrested during a surveillance patrol near the coast of Acapulco in the state of Guerrero by the Mexican Navy. Patrol personnel heard firearms go off and saw three men running toward the beach, who then opened fire on the Navy officers. One officer was injured.

The date of the arrest was not released.

Resillas underwent surgery at a hospital in Acapulco from gunshot wounds and is reported in stable condition. He fired his weapon twice, injuring a civilian.

Mexico’s Attorney General had three homicide arrest warrants issued for Resillas.

A truck, a motorcycle and a 9 mm pistol, exclusively designated for the Mexican armed forces, were seized.

The Mexican government had a $33,000 reward for information on Resillas’ location that led to his capture.

Resillas is linked to being the head of a criminal organization operating in different cities, including Ecatepec, Tlalnepantla, Cuautitlan Izcalli and Zumpango.
