Feb. 25 (UPI) — Three Palestinian workers were killed while repairing a smuggling tunnel between the Gaza Strip and Egypt.

Gaza’s civil defense authority said the three died after inhaling toxic gas inside the tunnel.

The workers were exposed to the gas while working to repair the tunnel, which had been destroyed by the Egyptian army.

Their bodies were recovered on Saturday and sent to a hospital in the town of Rafah.

Deaths in tunnels have become more common after Egypt began to crack down on smuggling by flooding and blowing them up.
