LONDON, Jan. 8 (UPI) — Queen Elizabeth went to church on Sunday, her first public appearance since missing Christmas and New Year services due to a cold.
The queen, 90, arrived at St. Mary Magdalene Church at Norfolk near her country estate Sandringham, where she has been recuperating for three weeks. She was cheered by well-wishers along the roadside and outside the church.
She walked unaided into the church for the 45-minute service, accompanied by her 95-year-old husband Prince Philip, Princess Kate and Prince William. Also in attendance were Kate’s mother Carole Middleton, brother James Middleton and sister Pippa Middleton.
Phillip, 95, has also been battling a cold in recent weeks but was able to attend both holiday services.
Queen Elizabeth, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, hadn’t been seen in public since Dec. 9 when she hosted the ambassador of Liberia at Buckingham Palace. She also prerecorded her Christmas broadcast, and hosted a private pre-Christmas party for her family and diplomats at the palace.
