ORANGE COUNTY, Calif., Feb. 12, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Southwest Airlines flight was evacuated just before its scheduled takeoff Monday night at John Wayne Airport because of smoke in the cabin.

According to a tweet from airport officials, Southwest Flight 2123, carrying 139 passengers and five crew members, was about to depart for San Jose.

When smoke appeared in the cabin, the crew decided to evacuate the plane. They deployed the inflatable chutes to get everyone off the aircraft as quickly and safely as possible.

The small fire was quickly extinguished.

Officials said some people had minor injuries from the evacuation, but no one needed to  go to a hospital.

The passengers were being put on a different Southwest flight.

About an hour after the incident, airport officials tweeted that operations were back to normal.
