June 25 (UPI) — A 14-year-old girl fell 25 feet from the Sky Ride at Six Flags Great Escape in upstate New York, but she wasn’t seriously injured, authorities said.
On Saturday, the unidentified teen was riding with a man in a stopped, two-person gondola at the Queensbury park, about 55 miles north of Albany. She fell out of the ride and was hanging onto the edge. She then let go and fell into the arms of workers and guests.
Amateur video was caught by Loren Lent, who told WRGB-TV people gathered beneath the young woman in an effort to help.
She was transported to Albany Medical Center, but didn’t suffer any serious injuries, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.
Six Flags officials said in a statement, “There does not appear to be any malfunction of the ride, but we have closed the attraction until a thorough review of the ride can be completed.”
According to the park website, the ride has no height requirement.
“Let your legs dangle in the air as you board your open, two-person cable car in Fest Area,” the website said. “You’ll travel in a round-trip circuit high over the boulevard, as you coast more than 20 feet in the air with a VIP view of Storytown on one side and International Village on the other.”
The gondola was added to the park in 1994.
The Great Escape and its adjacent Splashwater Kingdom has more than 135 rides and attractions.
The park opened in 1954 as Storytown USA and was acquired in 1996 by Premier Parks, which later bought and changed its name to Six Flags.
