VIENNA, Sept. 20 (UPI) — Thousands of migrants continued to pour over the Austrian border Sunday after being shuffled from country to country in an effort to deal with the overwhelming influx of people.

Austrian authorities said at least 11,000 migrants entered the country Saturday from Slovenia and Hungary through Croatia, which has received some 20,000 migrants since Wednesday. Others have come from Serbia after being blocked from entering Hungary. Another 4,700 arrived Sunday through Austria’s Nickelsdorf border town.

Hungarian authorities, who have been largely resistant to allow passage to the migrants, transported thousands to the Austrian border in an effort to move them through quickly.

The humanitarian crisis has degraded to verbal sparring in some cases, with many angered by Hungary’s decision to construct a razor-wire fence on its borders to keep the migrants out. The fence has deeply strained ties between Hungary and neighboring countries that feel the flow of migrants have been unfairly pushed on them.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto called Croatian authorities “shameless”and accused them of lying about having Budapest’s consent to bring migrants over the border to Hungary.

Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic admitted there was no agreement with Hungary.

“We forced them, by sending people up there. And we’ll keep doing it,” he said.
