May 18 (UPI) — As news surfaced Friday about the deadly shooting at Sante Fe High School near Houston, politicians and citizens took to Twitter to react.

Several tweets noted nearly two dozen school shooting incidents so far this year, with many using the hashtag #EnoughisEnough.

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump acknowledged the attack, as did members of the Trump administration, Congress and state leaders.

“We grieve for the terrible loss of life, and send our support and love to everyone affected by this horrible attack in Texas,” the president tweeted. “To the students, families, teachers and personnel at Santa Fe High School – we are with you in this tragic hour, and we will be with you forever…”

“My heart goes out to Santa Fe and all of Texas today,” the first lady, who was hospitalized this week, added.

Others who responded to Friday’s shooting attack:

Sen. Elizabeth Warren:

“My heart breaks for the students and faculty of Santa Fe High School, and the families of those who lost their lives today. One young person lost to gun violence is one too many. This cannot continue. #EnoughIsEnough”

Sen. Bernie Sanders:

“The American people, gun owners and non-gun owners alike, overwhelmingly support common sense gun safety legislation. It’s time to act.”

Secretary of Energy Rick Perry:

“Praying for the victims and their families of the Sante Fe high school shooting in Texas. Thank you to the first responders and medical professionals for their swift response.”

Former Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez, Democratic candidate for governor:

“I’m horrified, heartbroken, and angry by the senseless act of gun violence at Santa Fe high school. I’m praying for the victims, families, neighbors and friends. We’re living in a time when our children are marching in the streets, demanding change. It’s time we act. #Enough”

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton:

“The thoughts and prayers of all Texans are with the people of Santa Fe and those affected by today’s tragic shooting. As horrific reports come out of Santa Fe High School, my office stands ready to assist local law enforcement as needed.”

Texas Congressman and Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke:

“My thoughts are with the community of Santa Fe. All Texans are thinking of the students, teachers, and administrators within the Santa Fe ISD, and the law enforcement officers who are quickly responding.”

California Congresswoman Judy Chu:

“Another nightmare shooting at a high school. This time in Texas. My thoughts are with the families who lost their loved ones today. Congress must immediately take steps to reduce gun violence – we owe it to the next generation. My heart is broken. #EnoughIsEnough”
