Aug. 8 (UPI) — A pair of college students went on their first date, three years after they began exchanging messages on the dating app Tinder.
“Good Morning America” followed Kent State University students Josh Avsec, 22, and Michelle Arendas, 21, on their first date at a resort in Maui, Hawaii, which Tinder funded to encourage the couple to meet after years of exchanging jokes.
The pair cast a wish into a lucky mermaid fountain, went on a bike ride and shared drinks by the pool as they got to know each other.
“On this trip I have learned about Josh’s incredible energy,” Arendas said. “He is just always excited and always energetic.”
Avsec said he was impressed by Ardenas’ ambition and dedication to achieving her dreams.
“You should hear her talk about her dreams and her passions and her career path,” he said. “Determination, perseverance — it’s really rare and awesome to be a part of.”
As their time in Hawaii came to an end, Ardenas said they had no “concrete plans” to meet up again upon returning home.
“We are just now sitting down and getting the opportunity to know each other, so there’s probably a lot of learning still left to do,” she told People. “But it’s been great to be able to go through this adventure and have a partner to go through all of this with.”
Despite the public nature of their story, including a first meeting on “Good Morning America,” Avsec said the two don’t feel pressured to pursue a further relationship.
“She hasn’t put any pressure on me and I haven’t put any pressure on her, so as long as she and I stay focused on getting to know each other, things will go pretty smooth,” he said.
