Nov. 23 (UPI) — Three people sitting in a car outside an east Denver high school were shot Thanksgiving afternoon, police said.

The unidentified woman and two boys were taken to a hospital after the shooting at Manual High School in Denver. One of the boys is in critical condition, Denver police said. The incident happened around noon.

Around noon, one person was shot multiple times, another was hit in the leg and a third was shot in the arm, police said.

Denver’s police department posted on Twitter: “2 possibly 3 suspects. 1 suspect wearing a green/white shirt; 2nd suspect wearing a white hoodie.”

Although it’s not known if gangs were involved, Denver police spokesman John White said “our gang unit will be investigating at this point. Their task is to find out what caused this.”

The suspects approached the victims on foot as the woman and two boys were sitting in a white sedan, according to police. They began shooting at the victims and fled, police said.

Police have not yet determined whether the victims are related and whether they knew the shooters.

“It is a very traumatic situation for them, and sometimes it is difficult for them to give a good description,” White said.

Of Manual High’s 500 students in 2014, 60 percent of the student body was Hispanic and 30 percent was African-American.
