GRAND COUNTY, Colo., Dec. 30 (UPI) — A 40-year-old mother from Texas died and her two daughters, aged 9 and 12, were injured after falling from a chairlift in Colorado’s Ski Granby Ranch, emergency officials said.

The three fell about 25 feet from a four-person, high-speed chairlift, Grand County Emergency Medical Services official Ray Jennings said. The chair, itself, did not fall from the resort’s line.

The victims were taken to the nearby Middle Park Medical Center, where the woman died. One of the daughters was transported by air to Children’s Hospital Colorado, while the other was in a stable condition at Middle Park Medical Center.

The Ski Granby Ranch, a 400-acre family-oriented resort known for being frequented by amateur skiers and snowboarders, has four chairlifts.

Thursday’s incident is the first chairlift fall death in Colorado in 14 years. The names of the victims were not released but officials said they were visiting from Texas with other family members.

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office and Granby Police Department launched an investigation into the incident.
