COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho, March 8 (UPI) — Police say the man who shot the Idaho pastor in the parking lot of his church on Sunday had been to the church several times, and that he’d planned the shooting.
Coeur d’Alene Police Chief Lee White on Monday said Kyle Adrew Odom, 30, who is still on the run, was at Altar Church hours before the shooting on Sunday and had visited the church several other times recently.
White said police are still searching for a motive for the shooting. No connection has been established between Odom and the church or the Ted Cruz rally where Remington, 55, led a prayer a day before the shooting.
“However, it does appear that this was a pre-planned attack,” White said during a press conference. “And I will tell you that some details surrounding Mr. Odom’s planning are disturbing.”
White did not specify how many times Remington was shot, but said security camera footage of the incident has been valuable.
“The video footage that we have from this event was absolutely priceless,” White said. “It was extremely helpful.”
An arrest warrant has been issued for Odom, charging him with attempted first-degree murder. Church members expect Remington to make a full recovery and said he could be out of the hospital by Thursday.
Odom, a former U.S. Marine Corps corporal, is described as a white male in his mid-30s, about six feet tall with blue eyes and blonde hair. He is believed to have been driving a 2004 silver Honda Accord. Police warn he should be considered armed and dangerous.
Remington has spent years counseling inmates and is the director of Good Samaritan Rehabilitation, a faith-based organization that provides drug and alcohol treatment.
Remington said the opening prayer for Cruz at a campaign rally on Saturday at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds.
