NEPHI, Utah, March 17, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A road-rage incident Friday near Nephi caused an SUV to roll four times, sending two passengers to a Provo hospital in critical condition.

Law enforcement officials are seeking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or caught it on video so they can find the second driver, who caused the white SUV to swerve and crash before he fled the scene.

The incident happened at 3:15 p.m. when a white Chevrolet Suburban with six passengers was traveling south on Interstate 15, at mile marker 213, south of Nephi.

“The driver of the Suburban was engaged in a road-rage incident with another driver,” says a report from the Utah Highway Patrol. “At some point, the unknown driver ‘braked checked’ the Suburban in the far right lane.

“The driver of the suburban swerved to the right to avoid rear ending the other vehicle. He lost control and swerved back to the left. When he got to the median, he over corrected again and began to roll. The suburban rolled four full times, coming to rest on its wheels across both lanes of travel.”

All six people in the white Suburban were hurt, the report says. Two were critically injured, and were rushed to a Provo hospital, one by helicopter and one by ground ambulance. The four other occupants suffered minor injuries. Five of the six were wearing seat belts.

“The driver of the other vehicle stopped initially, but then left the scene,” the UHP report says. “It has not been located.”

The vehicle that left the scene was also a Chevrolet Suburban, but was larger, and black in color. A partial plate number is 7X0 or 7XO.

“It was driven by a white male adult with a beard. We are reaching out to the media to see if there are any motorists who were in the area who witnessed the crash.”

Anyone who saw the incident or may have video is asked to call the Richfield Dispatch at 435-896-6471.
