WASHINGTON, March 7 (UPI) — The White House was put under a security lock down briefly Saturday morning after a food vendor cart exploded and a bomb-sniffing dog alerted its handler to examine a nearby car.

White House pool reporters were on the South Lawn waiting for President Barak Obama and his family to depart for Selma, Ala., for the anniversary events of the civil rights march when there was a loud explosion.

“Secret Service then moved press back into the briefing room and locked the doors,” David McCumber of Hearst Newspapers said.

During a security sweep, a bomb-sniffing dog hit on a vehicle parked on Constitution Avenue, not far from the president’s private residence and offices. A Secret Service spokesman said the two incidents do not appear to be related.
