WEST JORDAN, Utah, March 21, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police arrested five suspects late Tuesday night, including one who led officers on a foot chase and had to be coaxed into compliance by a canine.

West Jordan Police Lt. Jeremy Robertson said officers were called to a report of a fight, with possible weapons involved, at the Broadmoor Village Apartments, 3375 W. 7800 South.

They were dispatched at 11:25 p.m., but had received a similar call a short time earlier.

“We already were in the area looking for this type of incident — people running through the area arguing back and forth,” Robertson said.

When officers responded, they located the car that had been described by witnesses.

Robertson said several people were in and around the car, and upon making contact with them, the officers saw a handgun in the vehicle.

Four of the people stayed put as police started taking them into custody, but one man took off running.

“We chased one male through the neighborhood back behind the apartment complex into some houses,” Robertson said.

A containment area was set up and the K-9 units were brought in.

Robertson said police searched “for quite awhile,” but eventually found the man, with the help of the dogs, and took him into custody.

He now faces misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and, possibly, brandishing a firearm during the initial altercation.

“We’re still investigating for possible further charges as well,” Robertson said.

“We were lucky we were already in the area when this happened,” he added. “Get a firearm off the street.”
