SAN DIEGO, Jan. 26, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) ─ After a 2-hour search for an active shooter at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, the post’s commander reported that no evidence had been found supporting the report.

A report came in at 8:10 a.m. Pacific time that a person in the basement of Building 26 of the facility had heard what sounded like three gun shots. Officers from multiple agencies came in, advised people on scene to shelter in place, and put three nearby schools on lock down.

Cpt. Kurt Jones, commander of Naval Base San Diego, held a new conferences at about 10:25 Pacific time to announce the search was ongoing, but to that point it had not turned up casualties, gun casings, a shooter or a gun.

“At this time, we have found nothing that substantiates those reports,” Jones said. “I would characterize it as someone who thought they hear something and took appropriate steps, and made a report.”

Jones said the investigation and debriefings would continue.

“Our priority is to ensure all personnel both in the building and on the compound are safe and secure,” he said.

“We take reports like this very seriously,” Jones said. “We do a lot of training to help people understand what they are supposed to do in the event of an active shooter.”

When the incident began, the Naval Medical Center San Diego posted a warming on its Twitter page:
