MAGNA, Utah, Jan. 15, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Fire Authority crews responded to a residential fire Monday night at 3395 S. Lynnbrook Drive (7580 West) and spent some time searching for the homeowner as well.

UFA Battalion Chief Scott McBride said neighbors called at about 9:30 p.m. to report smoke and fire visible from the roof of the home, and that’s what crews found when they arrived.

“We made an aggressive interior attack, searching for the homeowner,” McBride said.

Ultimately, it was determined that no one was inside the burning structure.

McBride said, “We put the fire out. Chased the fire through the attic for a little while, and got a handle on it.”

There were no injuries, he said, although a couple of Unified Police officers “got some smoke” when they also conducted a search for the homeowner.

McBride said the neighbors told officials that someone lives in the home, and that person is currently unaccounted for, but he emphasized that no one was actually inside the building at the time of the fire.

Fire crews reported that the power to the home was not on, and the gas was locked off, he said.

Damage to the home was significant, and crews said it looked as though there also was some damage from “an old fire.”

The home is not habitable at this point. McBride said the investigators are going over the scene and will try to determine how the blaze started.
