PROVIDENCE, Utah, July 8, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A Cache County woman was booked into jail late Friday on suspicion of two counts of attempted aggravated murder and two counts of animal cruelty after investigators say she encouraged a friend to commit suicide and killed the friend’s two dogs.

Teresa Clark, 36, of Providence, called 911 on June 25 to report a female friend’s attempted suicide in a Logan hotel room, according to information from the department.

The victim was found unresponsive, but survived. The victim’s two dogs were found dead in the hotel room. Evidence at the scene seemed to support the initial explanation, according to a news release from the Logan City Police Department.

Upon further investigation, more evidence was uncovered that suggested that Clark “provided the means and may have encouraged the victim to attempt suicide,” the news release states. “Additionally, two of the victim’s companion animals were found deceased in the hotel room on police arrival. Secondary to LCPD investigation, it is believed Teresa Clark is also responsible for the death of the two companion animals.”

The two counts of attempted aggravated murder are first-degree felonies, and the animal cruelty charges are third-degree felonies. According to information from the LCPD, the second attempted aggravated murder charge stems from Clark’s suggestion that her friend try suicide after the first attempt was unsuccessful, and a second time providing the means.

The investigation is ongoing, and formal charges are pending. Additional charges also are being considered. Clark is being held on $60,000 bail.
