SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug.15, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The man accused of killing his estranged husband and burning the Capitol Hill home they had shared appeared in court Monday, asking to be let out on bail.

Craig Crawford is charged with aggravated murder and arson in the May 22 death of his husband, John Williams, known as co-founder of the Market Street Grill restaurants, a local philanthropist and a prominent member of the LGBT community.

Williams had reportedly filed for divorce from Crawford.

Crawford and his attorney were in Third District Court to ask for a bail hearing.

Attorney James Bradshaw argued that Crawford had been in jail a substantial amount of time, and deserved a bail hearing.

Judge Vernice Trease agreed to schedule a Wednesday hearing to set a date for the bail hearing.

It’s probable Trease also will set a date for a preliminary hearing, to determine if there is enough evidence to warrant a trial.
