WEST JORDAN, Utah, July 14, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are on the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred on Old Bingham Highway some time before 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

Sgt. J.C. Holt, of the West Jordan Police Department, told Gephardt Daily that two cars were stopped on Old Bingham and told officers they saw a lifeless person laying off the roadway.

Checking further, they saw that a motorcycle was crashed just up the street, Holt said.

“So it appears that we have just a single motorcycle involved. The rider, unfortunately, of that motorcycle is deceased,” Holt said. “We’re in the process of trying to figure out what happened and identify the person.”

It’s still very early in the investigation, he said, adding, “The officers are setting up the crime scene, and we have a traffic accident investigation team en route to diagram the scene with the software we use, to try to determine exactly what happened.”

Asked whether speed may have been a factor, Holt pointed out that skid marks were visible on the road for quite some distance, which would indicate that speed may have contributed to the fatal crash.

The name of the deceased, an adult male, will not be released overnight, pending notification of family members.

Authorities closed Old Bingham Highway from 8600 South to 8000 South, and Holt said it will take several hours to investigate the crash scene.

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more information is made available.
