MIDVALE, Utah, Aug. 27, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The Unified Police Department has identified a man who was shot on a street corner in Midvale late Saturday night.

Jordan Burtell Moulton, 21, from West Valley, was found deceased with a single gunshot wound in the corner yard of 142 W. Columbia Dr., Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke said in a news release Sunday morning.

The UPD Midvale Precinct received a call of ‘shots fired’ in the area of Monroe Street and Columbia Drive around 10 p.m., the news release said.

Neighbors also heard a car leaving the area, but it is unknown at this point if the vehicle is related to the event. A gun was located under Moulton’s body.

“After initial investigation, detectives from UPD’s Violent Crimes Unit determined that Moulton was in fact killed by another person(s), subsequently classifying the case as a homicide,” the news release said. “Suspect information is very limited as this time, however detectives from Violent Crimes and the Metro Gang Unit will be working vigilantly to find the killer(s).”

Lohrke told Gephardt Daily Saturday night that as officers started the investigation, and as they looked around, they saw by the positioning of the body and other evidence that the gunshot wound initially appeared to be self-inflicted.

“But some of the circumstances and details weren’t adding up,” Lohrke said. “The man doesn’t belong to this house where he was found. The neighbors don’t recognize him from the area. And just some of the physical evidence.”

No one else was injured, Lohrke said, and the owners of the home near where the man was found were not at home. Police were attempting to make contact with them Saturday night.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the homicide to call the UPD on 801-743-7000.  Callers may remain anonymous while giving information.
