SUNSET, Utah, May 6, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police in Sunset have arrested a 23-year-old man who was found sleeping in a stranger’s car next to a number of tools typically used in burglaries.

Adam Christopher Devito was arrested Saturday on charges of:

  • Burglary, a third-degree felony
  • Burglary of a vehicle, a class A misdemeanor
  • Manufacture or possession of burglary tools, a class B misdemeanor
  • Criminal trespass, a class B misdemeanor

An officer was dispatched to a residence near 2000 North and 450 West on “suspicious circumstances,” a probable cause statement says.

“The complainant states she found someone asleep inside her vehicle. Upon my arrival, I observed a male who was later identified by his Utah ID Card as, Adam Devito, slumped down in the driver’s seat, inside the vehicle, with the door closed.”

The complainant was standing next to her car, and told the officer she had left it unlocked, and did not know the man inside, who had left the glove compartment open.

“I opened the door and Devito woke up,” the statement says. “I took him into custody and advised him of his rights. He agreed to speak with me.

“Devito told me that all he remembered was ‘he was freezing, then he blacked out.'”

He later told the officer that he had taken Xanax and was trying to get back to his room when he “blacked out.”

Investigators found tools where Devito had been sitting.

“These type of tools are commonly used during burglaries,” the statement says.

The complainant said she did not believe anything was missing.
