Missing Millcreek man found deceased

MILLCREEK, Utah, July 15, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police Department on Sunday reported that a 79-year-old man who was the subject of an extensive search has been found deceased.

Leon “Hy” Saunders had last been seen when he left his home early Friday morning.

On Sunday, he was found deceased.

Police do not suspect foul play.

Saunders had recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

A search was mounted by UPD, Search and Rescue, Unified Fire Authority and many volunteers who coordinated efforts throughout the weekend from a central location at Holladay United Church of Christ.

Sunday’s news release expressed gratitude from Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera and UPD to the numerous people who lent their support during the search effort.

The Saunders family issued a statement as well:

“We have the deepest gratitude for the incredible support you’ve shown Hy and our family. Hy was an incredibly kind and generous man who left an indelible impact on those he interacted with in every capacity. It is clear to us from the outpouring of love and this incredible search effort, that he is revered by those who knew him. The compassion showed by those who did not know him reflects the love and strong spirit of this community. Thanks to the many hundreds of volunteers, and united efforts of law enforcement, search and rescue and all others who responded. We are forever grateful to you. The family respectfully asks for privacy at this time.
