OREM, Utah, July 20, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Orem police say a local man is in critical condition after reportedly being shot by his brother.

Lt. Craig Martinez, Orem Police Department, told Gephardt Daily that the 53-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital with one gunshot wound to the chest. His brother, 60-year-old Arthur Freek, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Police responded at 1:32 p.m. to a report of a shooting at 515 E. 1834 South. The elder Freak initially declined to leave the house he was in, but officers talked to him and got him to surrender within about 20 minutes, Martinez said. A handgun recovered is believed to be the weapon that was used in the shooting.

Family members are being questioned about what may have led to the shooting.

Gephardt Daily will have more information as it becomes available.
