WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Oct. 1, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Police say a wanted fugitive was booked into Salt Lake County Jail after a pursuit that included a high-speed chase, spiking the tires of the stolen truck, and the suspect fighting two officers for their guns before backup and a K9 officer arrived.

Laithon Dallas Webb was taken into custody Saturday after the multi-day incident.

According to a news release, Webb was wanted in reference to several cases, and had felony warrants on charges including aggravated assault, felony fleeing with a vehicle, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

According to a probable cause statement, detectives learned that Webb had traded a stolen Jeep to a car dealership for a 2014 red Dodge Ram 1500.

On Thursday evening and Friday morning, Webb was observed driving the stolen vehicle at a high rate of speed, and driving into oncoming traffic. West Valley City police officers gave chase, but terminated the chase minutes later.

Sgt. Chad Reyes, Unified Police Department, located Webb at approximately 4720 W. 4800 South. Reyes attempted to conduct a traffic stop, according to the probable cause statement, but Webb reportedly swerved at the officer, forcing him to jump out of the way.

In the early hours of Saturday,  detectives located the Dodge Ram parked in the area of 3773 W. Englewood Drive, in Taylorsville. The Dodge bore the licence plate of a Mitsubishi passenger car.

Webb entered the Dodge and got in the driver’s seat. Detectives used a tire-deflation device before the vehicle could leave, but Webb rolled over the spikes and sped north, away from detectives, according to the statement.

The front tires began to deflate and come off the rims, so Webb got out of the vehicle and fled on foot, into a backyard at 3525 West and 4235 South, according to the report. WVCPD Sgts. Todd Gray and Daniel Bitton confronted Webb as he tried to jump a fence to escape.

Webb reportedly grabbed both officers, trying to remove their firearms from the holsters. The struggle continued until additional officers and a K9 officer arrived and helped subdue Webb, the report said.

Webb was cuffed and taken to a local hospital for treatment, then released into police custody to be booked into the Salt Lake County Jail. The Dodge was confirmed to be the one from the North Salt Lake dealership.
