LAYTON, Utah, April 30, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A motorcyclist had to be transported to the hospital by air ambulance Sunday night, after he was struck by a car police say ran a red light.

Layton Police Sgt. Scott Clark said the accident happened at Hill Field Road and Main Street.

A black passenger car, southbound on Main, went through the red light and hit the westbound motorcycle. The car then went over the sidewalk and hit a gas pump at the Common Sense Exxon station, tearing the pump off its base, Clark said.

The 16-year-old male driver of the car and his passenger were not injured.

The male motorcyclist, whose age wasn’t immediately available, sustained serious injuries and was flown by helicopter to University of Utah Hospital.

The Layton Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Clark said the young driver was cited for not stopping at the traffic light.
