SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Feb. 21, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — South Salt Lake police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a van driver and a dog walker who were in the area of a homicide on Feb. 13, hoping the two may have seen something that would lead to a break in the case.

In surveillance photos released by the SSLPD, a silver minivan can be seen driving north on 200 East near 3100 South at about 4 p.m. that day. A pedestrian walking a dog south in the same area also is shown.

“The minivan driver and the pedestrian might have crucial information that could help to identify a suspect or a vehicle connected to the Alan Hernandez Lopez homicide,” said a statement released by police.

“If anyone has any information that could help locate the possible witnesses in the photos please contact South Salt Lake Police dispatch at 801-840-4057. All calls are confidential and callers can remain anonymous.”

Hernandez Lopez, 16, was walking home from school when he was shot. He died at a hospital six hour later.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help the family.

“Alan was 16 years old and a sophomore attending Cottonwood High School in Salt Lake City, Utah,” the page says.

“Alan was a loving and sweet boy. He helped at home as much as he could, taking care of his siblings and working part time to assist his mother. This speaks to the person Alan was, always putting his family and loved ones first.”
