Rand Paul’s son, William, Cited for DUI

LEXINGTON, Ky., April 22 (UPI) — William Paul, the 22-year-old son of 2016 presidential hopeful Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol Sunday.

WilliamPolice in Lexington said William was in the driver’s seat of a 2006 Honda Ridgeline thatstruck the back of a parked vehicle.

The police report said William was “belligerent” and had “a strong odor of alcohol,” bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

A witness said just prior to hitting the vehicle, William allegedly sat alone in his truck and revved the engine prior to hitting the other vehicle.

Police said William failed a field sobriety test and refused a blood alcohol test. He was transported to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital to treat cuts on his face that happened during the collision, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts told the Lexington Herald-Leader.

He was cited for DUI and failure to maintain required auto insurance.

A spokesman for the senator’s presidential campaign said he “does not comment on any private matters in regards to his family.”

William is a senior at University of Kentucky. He’s had other run-ins with the law in the past, including an October 2013 citation for possession of alcohol by a minor and a January 2013 arrest for alleged simple assault of a flight attendant, consuming alcohol while underage, disorderly conduct, and being intoxicated and disruptive. He was arrested when his US Airways flight reached the gate at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina.
