SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 6, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office has ruled that an off-duty West Valley City officer’s use of deadly force on two juveniles accused of trying to rob him at gunpoint was legally justified.
The shootings took place on Nov. 7 of this year when WVCPD Officer Aaron Weeks was near his apartment building’s mail box when he was approached.
“One of the juveniles pointed a handgun at Officer Weeks and said: ‘Gimme what you got,’ said a statement released Wednesday by the Salt Lake District Attorney’s Office.
“Officer Weeks drew his own handgun and fired at the juvenile. The juvenile fired back at Officer Weeks, hitting him in the foot. The juveniles fled to the hospital where they were later arrested.”
The District Attorney’s Office declined to file criminal charges because ” … we conclude that (the) West Valley City Police Department Officer(‘s) use of deadly force was ‘justified’ under Utah State law,” the statement says.
